Jail Jonah's Daughter
- Russell Morris -

Bloodstone (1971)

Well it was Sunday morning about 7 to 8
And the church gate was closed
as it locked the way
A sign done in red conveyed
the evil message to me

Well I got the old horse
and I rode him on down
to the Courthouse there
in the centre of town
where the people all were
callin' for the parson
and his woman Jimeal

They sang jail Jonah's daughter
The woman had tried to stone her
The men had tried to own her
Get out yea get out and be gone

Well I stood there watching
as the citizens called for a tub
of hot tar and some feathers and all
The Sheriff all the while was
as nervous as a Sheriff can be

He was talking to the people
now amassing with rage
But they didn't seem to hear him
as he ranted and raved
They only saw the jail and a woman
that was evil Jimeal

Yea Yea jail Jimeal
The people all began to shout
The parson is not responsible
Don't you hold him (x2)

Well they ran her out of town
when they cut off her hair
And the ugly ones laughed on
with never a care
What jealousy can do is
an evil to the body and soul
